  • Bienvenue en France! For more information about France and for recommendations while planning your trip, check out our guide below.

First time in France? Welcome! We’re so happy you’re making the journey to celebrate with us. While there are so many great resources available when planning your trip, we’ve put together some quick recommendations to make it even easier.

Getting There...

If you’re thinking of flying straight to Strasbourg, the most direct way would be to travel to Basel Airport. There is often a connecting flight in London or Frankfurt, depending on the date and time. This option is best if you plan on renting a car, or are starting your journey in Strasbourg. From the Airport, you can call a taxi to your destination, or exit on the Swiss side and take Bus 50 to the EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg train station to Strasbourg.

However, if you’re planning on flying in early and spending more time exploring France, we recommend booking a direct flight to Paris. From there, you can easily spend a few days in the city of lights before hopping on the train from Paris Est to Strasbourg.

If you plan to spend some time in Paris before our celebration or want to stay and explore Strasbourg, be sure to check out some of our favorite places below.

City Center

Start at the heart of it all, by climbing the 330 steps to the top of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg and take in the breathtaking city view. Then wander through la petite france, which looks like it's straight out of a storybook with its charming cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses and cute canals. For a truly relaxing time, hop on a bateaux mouche to see the sights from the water.

Restaurants

When you’ve worked up an appetite, grab some jambonneau and choucroute garnie at Maison Kammerzell with a view of the cathedral or stop by La Corde à Linge by the canal for some traditional Alsatian spaetzle alongside some classic French dishes like foie gras and escargot.

Les Plus Beaux Villages

While the city centre of Strasbourg offers everything your heart can desire, no trip to Alsace would be complete without visiting other villages nearby, many of which are voted les plus beaux villages in France. Book a tour through the route du vin and discover cities like Ribeauvillé, one of oldest medieval cities surrounded by castle ruins and Riquewihr, with its historic watchtower and colorful maisons à colombages decorating the main street.

End your visit by staying overnight in Colmar, taking in the city that inspired the magical location for films such as “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “Beauty and the Beast”. Take your time wandering through the medieval city center to la petite venise to enjoy the view of the canals and be sure to check out all the delicious food vendors at marché couvert.

Neighborhood

When we have a chance to steal a few nights in the city of lights, we love staying in the 9th arrondissement, tucked away just the under the Sacré-Cœur Basilica and the famous cobble-stone streets of Montmartre.

Restaurants

While there is definitely no shortage of good food in Paris, some of our favorite places include: the best Italian food you’ll ever have (surprise it’s in France!) at Pink Mama, eating a giant cloud of mousse au chocolat at Chez Janou, and admiring the art deco interior of Boullion Chartier.

Leisures

Out of all the things to do in Paris, we love to flâner, or wander around the city and find different things to observe. Some of the best spots include: letting your nose guide you down the numerous patisseries on the Rue de Martyrs — searching for hidden entries to the numerous arcades such as Galerie Vivienne or Véro-Dodat — or even enjoying and taking in classic views from the Arc de Triomphe and Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
